LET'S BAN PUPPY MILLS

Take Action to End Puppy Mills in New Jersey. (S434/A2049)

There are 3 things you can do today to advocate to put a stop to puppy mills.

Through repealing the Pet Purchase Protection Act, we are working to shut down Puppy Mills doing business in New Jersey - those driven solely by greed and which care little about the welfare of the dogs and cats they sell—or the loving pet owners they sell them to.

Step 1: Sign The Petition

I hereby call on the New Jersey Legislature to effectively ban the retail sale of puppies from puppy mills throughout the state. Puppy mills should be unequivocally condemned for their cruel and inhumane disregard for animal welfare. Putting an end to these establishments will stop the cruelty while reducing New Jersey’s stray population and the number of animals euthanized annually.

New Jersey residents please sign this petition and urge your legislators to ban the retail sale of animals from puppy mills.

STEP 2: Push the bill for committee vote!

Ask the Chair and Vice-Chair of the respective committees to put the bill up for a committee vote. We’ve prepared a sample email for you to use, but we highly encourage you to modify it to make it more personal.

Sample Email to the Chair and Vice-Chair of the Senate Economic Growth Committee and the Assembly Commerce and Economic Development Committee

Subject line: Request to Post S434 / A2049 for Committee Vote

Dear Chair and Vice-Chair,

I am writing to respectfully request your leadership in posting S434 / A2049 for committee consideration and a vote.

Puppy mills are notorious for inhumane conditions, improper care, poor genetic practices, and the spread of disease. These operations harm animals and place unsuspecting families at risk of purchasing sick puppies, often resulting in heartbreak and costly veterinary expenses.

S434 / A2049 would prohibit the retail sale of puppies sourced from puppy mills in New Jersey, helping to close the puppy mill–to–pet store pipeline. Similar policies have already been adopted in five states and more than 400 localities nationwide, demonstrating both feasibility and broad public support.

Both bills have strong sponsorship and advocacy backing. Posting this legislation for a vote would be a critical step toward advancing humane, responsible animal welfare policy in New Jersey.

Thank you for your time and consideration. I appreciate your leadership on this important issue.

Sincerely,

[Your Name]
[Your City, NJ]
